To complete your health plan sign-up during the initial open enrollment period, on-time payment is needed. If your payment is received by the 15th of the month, you will be covered on the 1st of the next month. For example:
You can make this first-month payment in one of two ways. Those ways are explained below.
After the first month’s payment, you will be billed by the insurance company, and make payments directly to them.
To pay online, consumers using mnsure.org must complete all application, plan selection and payment steps in one sitting. This eliminates the need to return to the website to complete enrollment. MNsure strongly recommends this method in order to ensure coverage begins when intended by the consumer.
Consumers who prefer to pay their health insurance company directly can select that option when they reach the “select a payment method” step in the enrollment process at mnsure.org. Choosing this option means the consumer will be billed directly by the insurance company.
If consumers do not pay online, they will be billed directly by their insurance company, and can no longer pay MNsure for their first month’s premium.
MNsure will process your first and ongoing payments for MinnesotaCare. Payments may be made online, or by check or money order. There is no fee assessed by MNsure for this service.
Payment is needed to complete your health plan sign-up. If we receive your payment by noon on the last day of one month, you will be covered on the 1st of the next month. For example:
For ongoing MinnesotaCare coverage, you will get a bill every month. You may pay online, by mail or in person.
MinnesotaCare premiums are due by the 15th of each month. Past due premiums must be received by noon on the last working day of the month. This is required to keep your coverage in place for the next month. If your payment is not received on time, your MinnesotaCare coverage will end.
Beginning November 2013, you may pay your MinnesotaCare premium online using the MNsure payment services. When you choose this option, you will be sent to the MNsure online payment page. This service is run by US Bank, but you do not have to be a US Bank customer to use it. MNsure does not assess a fee for this service.
You may choose to have a premium bill mailed to you. If you choose this option, you should get the bill in the mail 3-5 days after you are determined eligible for MinnesotaCare. All you need to do is mail the enclosed invoice stub with a check or money order. A self-addressed envelope is included to make this easy. Once you are enrolled you will get a premium bill every month.
If you choose this option, you can still make your premium payment online.
You may pay your MinnesotaCare premium in person if you prefer. The MinnesotaCare Cashier’s Office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM– 6:00 PM and is located at:
Minnesota Department of Human Services
540 Cedar Street
St. Paul, MN 55155
To summarize, your first MinnesotaCare premium payment must be received by noon on the last working day of a month to start MinnesotaCare coverage on the 1st of the next month. Your ongoing MinnesotaCare premiums are due by the 15th of each month.
All payments for small business billings will be paid by check.
