Open Enrollment Period
Open enrollment is an annual period when people can enroll in a private health insurance plan.
Open Enrollment Dates and Deadlines
Open enrollment for 2017 runs from November 1, 2016 to January 31, 2017. If you miss this deadline, you may still be able to get health coverage outside the annual open enrollment period:
When Does My Coverage Start?
- Enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1
- Enroll by January 15 for coverage that starts February 1
- Enroll by January 31 for coverage that starts March 1
As a general rule, if you apply and enroll between the first and 15th of the month, your coverage starts the first day of the next month. If you apply and enroll between the 16th and last day of the month, your coverage starts the first day two months out.
Important: you must pay your first month's premium on time for your coverage to start on these above days.
