Changing Employee Coverage
Employee Cancellation Effective Dates
Employees may cancel their employer-sponsored coverage at any time after the coverage has started, upon written notice to MNsure SHOP. To do this, use the SHOP Employee Change Form (PDF).
- If the request arrives at MNsure between the 1st and 15th of the month, cancellation of the policy may occur for the end of the current month of coverage.
- If the request arrives at MNsure between the 16th and the end of the month, cancellation may occur for the end of the next month.
Employee Termination Effective Dates
If cancellation is due to employee termination, coverage will expire at the end of the month of the event. Please submit termination changes as soon as possible; no later than 30 days following the event.
Note: All invoices are payable in full. Credits owed for premiums paid after the last date of coverage for the termed employee will be applied to a future invoice.
Qualifying Event Changes for Current Enrollees
Employers may submit changes to employee coverage outside of their open enrollment period if the employee experiences a qualifying life event. See a list of qualifying life events here.
Report a qualifying life event change to MNsure SHOP using the SHOP Employee Change Form (PDF). Return it by secure email to MNsure_SHOP@state.mn.us or mail it to MNsure SHOP, P.O. Box 64246, St. Paul, MN 55164.
