Change in Eligibility for Tax Credits

You may qualify for a special enrollment period (SEP) if you are a current enrollee through MNsure and become newly eligible or ineligible for an advanced premium tax credit (APTC) or cost-sharing reductions (CSR). (Changes in the amount of existing APTC or CSR does not qualify for a SEP.)

To qualify you or your dependents must be currently enrolled through MNsure in a qualified health plan. 

A change to your APTC or CSR is automatically processed by our system. You should receive notification of this change in your enrollment dashboard inbox.

Key Dates

  • 60-day SEP begins: Date of your change in eligibility or determination notice.
  • When you can enroll: Any time during the 60-day window of your SEP once your qualifying life event is verified.
  • When coverage starts: The first day of the month following the date you select your plan.
