METS Enhancement for Family Glitch

2/9/2023 3:47:29 PM

In October 2022, effective in 2023, the IRS issued a rule to fix the ACA’s “family glitch” which extends premium tax credit eligibility subsidies to dependent family members when employer-sponsored insurance is deemed unaffordable. MNsure has been accepting and processing Appendix A forms from consumers to determine eligibility for families affected by the “family glitch.”

We are happy to announce that after February 12, an enhancement will deploy in the METS application which will automatically determine premium tax credit subsidy eligibility for family members who are offered employer-sponsored insurance coverage.

Consumers applying for coverage who are offered health insurance through an employer will enter spouse and tax dependent information to check eligibility for their entire family. This enhancement will eliminate the need for manual Appendix A form submissions.

See this week's /assets/2023-February-Broker-Webinar_tcm34-563786.pdfstatewide broker webinar for additional details, including screenshots of application enhancements.

The Employer Insurance Affordability Estimator tool will continue to be available in the /new-customers/apply/prepare/esi-tool.jspIs Your Employer Insurance Affordable? section on MNsure.org.
