It is important to remember that consumers who are losing public program coverage or employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) on December 31 that qualify for a special enrollment period (SEP) have longer to enroll in coverage for a January 1 effective date than the open enrollment deadline of December 15 for January 1 coverage.
