DHS Shares Policy Changes to Improve Health Care Coverage for Minnesotans

1/4/2024 1:34:33 PM

Minnesota made significant progress in 2023 to improve access to comprehensive health care coverage and equitable health care services, and many of these positive changes took effect Jan. 1. Here are some highlights:

  • All children eligible for Medical Assistance under age 19 now have 12 months of continuous coverage in the program. Ensuring consistent access to care will benefit almost 600,000 kids, giving the youngest Minnesotans a more equitable start and helping them reach their full potential. Bulletin #23-21-27
  • Medical Assistance enrollees now pay no copays or deductibles.
  • MinnesotaCare enrollees continue to have no premiums until July 2024. Bulletin #23-21-12
  • Former foster care youth from other states now have access to public health care coverage up to age 26 as long as they were in foster care and enrolled in Medicaid on their 18th birthday. Bulletin Bulletin #23-21-24
  • New measures will help keep eligible people with disabilities enrolled in Medicaid by eliminating the asset limit to qualify for the Medical Assistance for Employed Persons with Disabilities program. Bulletin 23-21-28
