There are still opportunities to enroll in a health plan!
A special enrollment period (SEP) is now required to enroll in or change a qualified heath plan. The steps for enrollment differ depending on a consumer’s situation. Prior to assisting consumers with this process, it is important to review the SEP process, which can be found on Assister Central in the Helping Consumers section under /assister-central/helping-consumers/sep/index.jspSpecial Enrollment Period.
Minnesotans who were unable to enroll in a qualified health plan while MNsure offices were closed January 13-15 may qualify for a time-limited SEP. To qualify, the consumer must have completed the Attempt to Enroll form that was available on MNsure.org over the weekend. Eligible consumers must select a plan no later than January 31 to have coverage that begins February 1.
For assisters: If you are working with a consumer who completed the Attempt to Enroll form, first have them check their account to see if plan shopping has already been opened. If not, navigators/CACs can call the Assister Resource Center with the consumer present and brokers all call the Broker Service Line. We will check SEP eligibility and open plan shopping for qualifying consumers. You may need to assist the consumer with completing an application or updating their eligibility before they can enroll.
Remember: This is a limited time SEP. Eligible consumers must select a plan no later than January 31, 2024, for coverage that begins February 1, 2024.
Individuals who lose Medical Assistance (MA) or MinnesotaCare coverage that were enrolled under the continuous coverage rules are eligible for a special SEP with the following provisions:
Reminder: If you are calling the ARC with a consumer who qualifies for this SEP and is eligible for a retro-effective date, please be sure the consumer had decided on whether they want the prospective or retro effective date BEFORE calling to enroll in a plan. When enrolling online using the “Loss of Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare” life event option, the consumer will automatically be given the option to select the retro-effective date if it is within 60 days of their loss of public program coverage.
