Der

Der is a single mother working two jobs, one of which is working at Neighborhood House as a teen parent educator.

At Neighborhood House, Der was given the opportunity along with other co-workers to be certified as navigators with MNsure.

"I work with a population that is very skeptical of changes, especially from the government, and they want to see it first hand before they give it a try," said Der.

Even though Neighborhood House offered Der health insurance, she says it was too expensive for a single parent on an average income. She tried herself to enroll through MNsure, and to her surprise she and her son qualified for Medical Assistance, providing health insurance coverage at no cost.

"The next step was to just wait for the county to mail me more information about what to do next. After choosing my health insurance plan and mailing it back, I received another letter about a week after confirming the health insurance plan and coverage for me and my son," said Der.

Having gone through the process herself, Der is now able to better help the people she works with enroll in MNsure as a certified navigator.
