Help eligible Minnesotans keep their Medical Assistance by spreading the word about coming Medicaid changes required by the federal government. 

Starting this fall, Medical Assistance eligibility is changing because of a federal law that passed last year. The impacts will be felt mostly by noncitizen adults and adults who are not pregnant, do not live with their children, and are not receiving MA based on a disability. To build awareness about this complex transition and to help Minnesotans get ready for the steps they will have to take to keep their health coverage, the federal changes partner toolkit on our website has an ever-expanding set of tools and assets for partners to use in their outreach efforts. The toolkit is updated regularly, so check back often for new content.

Beginning October 1, 2026, some lawfully present noncitizen adults living in Minnesota will no longer qualify for Medical Assistance, while many may still be eligible for MinnesotaCare. You can download flyers, draft emails and call scripts, and FAQs about this provision that will help clarify needed steps. If your organization serves people in this group, these resources can help make them aware of their options and support them in staying enrolled in a health care program.

American Indian and Alaska Native resources 

Beginning January 1, 2027, some adults without children or disabilities will have to meet new work requirements and six-month renewals for Medical Assistance. American Indians and Alaska Natives are exempt from these requirements. The online Renewal Lookup Tool has been updated to allow enrollees to report expected exemptions and qualifying work activities. If your organization serves this community, please help spread the word about the tool so individuals can report their status and claim their exemption.
