Qualified Health Plan (QHP) to Medicare Enrollment

3/31/2022 1:55:35 PM

Did you know? A new Medicare enrollment does not automatically terminate a consumer’s MNsure QHP enrollment. If a consumer’s QHP enrollment is not terminated, the consumer will stay enrolled in their plan and continue to be billed by the insurance carrier. MNsure QHP enrollments must be terminated prior to the beginning of the month in which Medicare begins.

To terminate a QHP enrollment, one of the following steps must be taken:

  • The consumer can login to their MNsure account and use the Disenroll from Medical Plan feature found on the My Plan Details page.
  • The consumer can call the MNsure Contact Center at 855-366-7873 to request termination of their QHP enrollment.
  • The assister who is authorized to act on behalf of a consumer can complete a full termination by accessing the consumer’s account through the MNsure assister portal.
  • If the consumer completed a paper application to apply for coverage, a call must be made by the consumer to the MNsure Contact Center or the assister to the Assister Resource Center (ARC) or Broker Service Line to request termination of coverage.

If only select members of the QHP enrollment are gaining Medicare and a partial termination is needed, the consumer or assister must call MNsure to terminate those members from the enrollment.
