Extension of MA Postpartum Period Opt-In Notice Mailed

6/16/2022 2:12:02 PM

Starting July 1, 2022, people enrolled in Medical Assistance (MA) based on pregnancy (MA for pregnant women and CHIP-funded MA for pregnant women) are entitled to a 12-month postpartum period after the pregnancy ends. People enrolled under the pregnant woman basis since July 2021, will have a redetermination of their eligibility for the balance of the 12-month postpartum period.

Undocumented pregnant women and lawfully present noncitizen pregnant women age 21 and over have had their MA eligibility and coverage ended after their 60-day postpartum period in accordance with COVID-19 public health emergency instructions. They now have the opportunity for a redetermination of eligibility.

DHS has identified these former enrollees with a pregnancy end date or due date after July 2, 2021 and mailed the /assets/Extension-MA-Postpartum-Period-Opt-In-Notice_tcm34-531297.pdfExtension of MA Postpartum Opt-In Notice to them. DHS mailed the Opt-In Notice on June 10, 2022. They are instructed to contact their county or DHS to request a redetermination of any months remaining in their 12-month postpartum period.

The person should contact their county or tribal agency or return the signed notice to their county or tribal agency with their request to have their eligibility redetermined. Although they can contact their agency before July 1, 2022, for a redetermination, eligibility cannot begin before that date.

Both the MA and CHIP-funded pregnant women must meet state residency requirements. The CHIP-funded pregnant women must not be enrolled in other health insurance.

Refer questions about eligibility and coverage to the county or tribal agency where the person lives.
