Navigator Tip of the Week: Partial Enrollments

6/6/2024 3:08:51 PM

Going forward, please be prepared to report changes making applicants who are not enrolling in a partial enrollment to non-applicants. ARC staff will request applicant status corrections if an assister and consumer call and just want to enroll some members of the insurance assistance benefit unit. An example of this situation would be if mom, dad and three children have advanced premium tax credit (APTC) of $300, but the consumer only wants to enroll the three children. The ARC staff will complete the enrollment, but we will ask for the changes to be reported at the same time to change those not enrolling to non-applicants.

Applications must reflect only those seeking to enroll in coverage otherwise the APTC eligibility may be too much. If too much APTC is applied to the enrollment, it could lead to the consumer having to pay back tax credit at the end of the year.

If you have a consumer who only wants to enroll some of the members, using the MNsure Plan Comparison tool can help to see how much APTC the household should receive by making note of who is seeking coverage. Once the applicant status change has been processed, the APTC will also be updated.
