Consumers who wish to lower the cost of their health coverage, must provide MNsure a Federal Tax Information (FTI) authorization to retrieve IRS data for eligibility determinations. Consumer tax information is used to verify and renew eligibility for advanced premium tax credits (APTC) and cost-sharing reductions (CSRs). These forms require special handling and have specific instructions for submission.
On August 1, MNsure mailed out FTI authorization notices to qualified health plan (QHP) eligible households whose FTI authorization is expiring. If a consumer does not provide an updated FTI authorization prior to MNsure’s renewal process in September, they will lose eligibility for APTC and CSR in 2025.
Consumers who received the notice can use a mobile-friendly option that allows them to use a QR code to provide their authorization via their smart phone. Please note, this option is only available to consumers who received the notice in the mail.
Authorization can also be provided online or by completing and mailing a paper form.
Assisters who have an assister portal association with a household receiving the notice will receive an email with instructions on how to help consumers provide FTI authorization.
