Reminder: Some Consumers May Still Qualify for January 1 Coverage

Consumers may qualify for a /new-customers/enrollment-deadlines/special-enrollment/index.jspspecial enrollment period (SEP) that allows special effective dates for coverage. 

Now that we’ve passed the December 20, 2017 deadline for January 1, 2018 coverage, it’s important to know that those who experience a loss of qualifying health care coverage may still be able to enroll in coverage effective January 1, 2018.

Consumers who are seeking a January 1, 2018 effective date should follow the following steps:
1. Review their 2018 plan options using MNsure’s /shop-compare/index.jspplan comparison tool. They should NOT select their plan online!  The January 1, 2018 effective date is not available for plans selected online, you must contact MNsure. 
2. Once they have chosen a plan, they must call the MNsure Contact Center at 1-855-366-7873 to verify their eligibility for an SEP and ensure the correct coverage start date. Assisters working with a consumer should call the ARC or Broker Line to verify the SEP and complete a manual enrollment.


Remember that if a consumer is new to MNsure, they will need to create an account and submit an application prior to calling the MNsure Contact Center to manually enroll in a plan.
