Special Enrollment Period (SEP)

Open enrollment for 2022 private coverage has ended, but you may be able to enroll now or make changes to private coverage if you qualify for a special enrollment period.

A special enrollment period (SEP) is a period of time when you can enroll in a private health plan or change enrollment to another private plan if you experience a qualifying life event, like having a baby, getting married, moving to a new area, or losing other health coverage.

If you qualify for a SEP, you usually have up to 60 days following the event to enroll in a plan. If you miss that window, you have to wait until the next open enrollment period.

See information about enrolling in or making changes to Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare coverage.
