About the Plans

Health Plans Offered on the MNsure Marketplace

Private health plans are commercial health insurance plans offered by insurance companies on the MNsure marketplace (these are also known as "qualified health plans" or "QHPs").

All private plans offer the same core set of benefits called "essential health benefits." These include preventive services, mental health and substance abuse services, emergency services, prescription drugs and hospitalization, and follow established limits on cost-sharing (deductibles, co-payments and out-of-pocket maximum amounts). Each private health plan has been reviewed by state regulators and approved to be sold on MNsure.

Consumer Protections

All plans offered in the MNsure marketplace include consumer protections.

Enrollment Caps

Some of Minnesota's health insurance companies are limiting the number of people they accept into their individual market health insurance plans.

Essential Health Benefits

Under the Affordable Care Act individual and small group health plans must cover 10 essential health benefits.
