FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ST. PAUL, Minn.—It’s summer, and once again wedding season is in full swing in Minnesota. Many nuptials were delayed due to COVID-19, prompting the Star Tribune to report a “tsunami of weddings” across the state in 2022.

With more than 35,000 unions expected this year alone, MNsure is reminding couples that getting married means you may qualify for a /new-customers/enrollment-deadlines/special-enrollment/sep-le/marriage/index.jspspecial enrollment period (SEP) and can use this opportunity to sign up for coverage through Minnesota’s health insurance marketplace. MNsure is the only place you can access benefits that lower the cost of monthly premiums, and most Minnesotans who enroll through MNsure qualify for savings.

“Marriage begins a new chapter in your life as a couple,” said MNsure CEO Nate Clark, “Make sure you’re prepared to start it together with health coverage that fits you and your new spouse’s needs.”

Before you say “I do,” see how much you can save by using MNsure’s /shop-compare/index.jspplan comparison tool. You also can get free help from a health insurance expert who can answer your questions and help you fill out an application. Check out the /help/find-assister/index.jspAssister Directory to find a MNsure-certified broker or navigator in your community or an upcoming enrollment event near you.

Once you’re married, you’ll have 60 days following your wedding date to change plans or enroll in coverage if you qualify for a marriage SEP. Hang on to your marriage certificate, as you’ll need to send a copy of it and other verifying documents to MNsure. Visit the /new-customers/enrollment-deadlines/special-enrollment/sep-le/marriage/index.jspMNsure website for more information about the marriage SEP and how to apply for affordable, comprehensive coverage.
