As a navigator at Portico Healthnet, Kristy has seen MNsure's vast improvements and the impact that has on consumers.
"In the fall of 2013, it was as if no one could get through," said Kristy. "We weren't able to help people."
Kristy remembers working with one consumer that created an account back in December 2013, but was so frustrated by the experience she didn't continue with the application. That consumer found Kristy at an enrollment event held a few months later at a local community center. Together, they were able complete the application and get confirmation it was accepted and approved. The consumer left the appointment with active health insurance coverage.
"It's an amazing experience to help someone like that," said Kristy. "It feels like the system is finally working as it was set up to be and it is really encouraging to see that."
Portico Healthnet, along with other navigator organizations, say they saw an increased demand in enrollment assistance as the open enrollment deadline approached. Minnesotans eligible for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare can seek the assistance of a navigator year-round.
