Jessica is a navigator at Lake Superior Community Health Center, and has been helping people enroll in Minnesota Health Care Programs for the past 10 years.
"In our office we help people through the application process and also follow up with them to make sure they get enrolled," said Jessica. "If they have specific medical concerns we also explain how to use their new policy."
When MNsure launched, Jessica was eager to start helping people enroll, especially those that had been previously denied coverage.
"It has been years' worth of people coming over and not finding health insurance options. It's really nice now to be able to offer people more options."
Jessica recalls one person she has worked with in the past. Because of his income, he was never eligible for health insurance assistance and struggled to get quality coverage. Through MNsure, he will now likely qualify for an advanced premium tax credit, making it possible for him to finally afford a health insurance plan.
"MNsure is a good thing. Even though it had a bumpy start for some people, it is definitely taking away barriers to health insurance coverage."
