Report a Change
When anything changes, tell us ASAP.
Reporting any household changes is important. First, because “it’s the rule" and a federal requirement. When you enroll in a health plan through MNsure, you agree to tell us if anything on your application changes during the year.
Accurate information about you and your family ensures you get the right benefits, too. If you don’t report changes, you risk:
- Missing out on financial help (and paying higher costs!)
- Missing an opportunity to change plans.
- Having to repay a large sum to the government when you file taxes. For example, if you got advanced premium tax credits but your actual income was higher than you estimated on your application.
- Losing access to your current plan. For example, because you moved to a county in Minnesota where it’s not available.
How to Report a Change

Do your family members have different types of insurance? For example, a family where the parents have a health plan through MNsure and the kids have Medical Assistance. If you’re confused about how to report a change, check out our Guide for mixed-eligibility households.

Common Questions
Will my costs change?
Maybe. If your income goes down, you might qualify for more help to lower your monthly premium. If your income goes up, you might pay more.
Will my plan change?
You can usually keep your same plan. But if you move to a new county, you might have to pick a new plan in that area.
What if I'm not sure if I should report a change?
