Citizenship and Immigration Status
Everyone is welcome to apply.
You may be eligible for coverage, regardless of your immigration status.
- Medical Assistance (MA) is available for Minnesota residents if:
- You are pregnant and for 12 months postpartum, or after giving birth. Your immigration status does not matter.
- You are receiving services at the Center for Victims of Torture. Your immigration status does not matter.
- Emergency Medical Assistance (EMA) covers emergency medical care for Minnesota residents if:
- You meet income limits and other rules for MA
- You are not eligible for MA because of your immigration status
- MinnesotaCare offers free or lower cost health insurance for Minnesotan residents if:
- You meet income limits and other rules for MinnesotaCare. Your immigration status does not matter.
- Qualified health plans (QHPs) are available to Minnesota residents if:
- You are a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national, or a lawfully present immigrant.
Mixed Status Households
Many immigrant households are “mixed status.” For example, parents who have no immigration papers with children who are U.S. citizens.
If everyone needs coverage, fill out an application to find out what type of health insurance you and your family members may qualify for.
If you are applying for someone else, your citizenship and immigration information is not required on the application. You only need to provide this information for the person(s) applying for coverage.
