Enhancements to the ACA

Expanded premium tax credits have been extended by Congress for three years, through December 31, 2025.

The expanded benefits lower health insurance premiums for plans purchased through MNsure:

• Most people already enrolled through MNsure will see savings.
• People enrolled through MNsure without premium tax credits may now be eligible.

These new savings cannot be applied to stand-alone dental or catastrophic plans.

You may be eligible to receive a tax credit right now. You will need to reapply and select the application WITH financial help. Call the MNsure Contact Center and we can help you with this process.

You can enroll in private health insurance through MNsure during the annual open enrollment period. You can enroll outside the annual open enrollment period if you experience a qualifying life event that makes you eligible for a special enrollment period. 

Note: If you have access to affordable insurance through your employer, you will not be eligible for a tax credit.

Before you make any changes to your current health insurance – and to make sure you don’t end up with a gap in coverage – contact your insurance company to understand your options first.

A change in federal law fixed the “family glitch” starting in 2023. This means family members of Minnesotans with offers of employer-sponsored health insurance may have new opportunities to access subsidized coverage through MNsure, even if they weren’t eligible before.
